A key benefit of being a FACHRS member is the opportunity to take part as a volunteer project researcher, and we offer a range of projects for everyone.
If you are a family historian or local history historian you already possess many of the skills that could make you a valuable project researcher. Our projects fall into two categories:
Major Projects
These can involve a year or more part-time research – they become a real labour of love! They may involve frequent visits to your Local Record Office to seek out primary sources.
Have a look at reports on past projects:
- Arithmeticke
- The Swing Riots Project
- The Allotments Project
- School Log Books
- Almshouses
- Home Front
- Communities of Dissent
- Asylums
Annual Projects
A set of questions to consider, along with a suggested individual from the 1881 census, is provided for each member. The goal is to complete research within a month or so. The questions only require access to online resources, although many choose to expand their findings by visiting record offices and other archives.
